STORRS, CT (September 2) -- University of Connecticut goalkeeper Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY) has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after leading the UConn field hockey team to a 2-0 weekend and the UConn Field Hockey Classic Title.

Butler, the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year played all 140 minutes in net for Connecticut, stopping seven shots and earning two shutouts. UConn defeated Lafayette 3-0 on Saturday, and bested Lehigh 2-0 on Sunday to capture the weekend tournament in Storrs.

UConn returns to action on Sunday, September 7th when they travel to State College, Pa to take on Penn State. Game time is set for noon.
