STORRS, CT (September 9) -- The University of Connecticut Field Hockey team
has been ranked 10th nationally in the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I National
Coaches Poll, it was announced September 9. UConn will play six teams ranked in
the top 20 and four more teams listed in the "also receiving votes" category.
The Huskies, who lost only two starters from the 2002 squad which went 15-8
and finished the season ranked 15th in the nation, received 201 points from the
voting coaches. Defending champion Wake Forest received 12 first place votes
(531 points) and is ranked first in the nation. North Carolina, Maryland, Penn
State and Duke round out the top five. Connecticut lost 2-1 at Penn State on
September 7 and will take the field with No. 6 Old Dominion on Sunday, September
14. UConn will also match-up with Princeton (tie 10th), Northeastern (No. 12),
Boston University (No. 17) and BIG EAST foe Boston College (No. 20) in 2003.
UConn returns to action Wednesday, September 10 against nutmeg state rival
Quinnipiac. Game-time is set for 4:00 pm at the George J. Sherman Family Sports
Complex in Storrs.
