PRINCETON, NJ (October 11) -- Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) scored her 50th career goal, and freshman Megan Hoffman (West Granby, CT) notched the game-winner as the No. 13 University of Connecticut field hockey team defeated No. 10 Princeton in New Jersey Saturday afternoon. With the triumph, UConn improves to 9-4 on the year.  Princeton slips to 6-3.

Hoffman a promising freshman, notched the eventual game-winner at 62:25. Senior forward Kelly Stolle (Warren, CT) blasted a shot into the circle from the right wing, finding Hoffman who redirected the ball into the lower right-hand corner of the goal giving the Huskies a 2-0 advantage. The Tigers would mount a rally, as Shahrzad Joharifard got Princeton on the board at 66:51, cutting the Husky lead in half.

However, senior Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Marueen Butler (Red Hook, NY) was a wall this afternoon for the Huskies. Butler made a season-high 13 saves for Connecticut, including a big save in the game’s final minutes to preserve the victory.

Henderson got UConn on the board at 33:45 as she beat all but one Princeton defender down the field and fired the ball into the lower right corner, giving UConn a lead it would not relinquish.

The Huskies are back in action Wednesday, October 15 to square-off with No. 12 Northeastern in Boston. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
