STORRS, CT (October 13) – UConn goaltender Maureen Butler
(Red Hook, NY) has been named BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her
efforts in leading the University of Connecticut to a 1-1 record over two top 15
teams. Butler earns the honor for the third time in 2003, more than any other
conference player. Kerri Doherty of Boston College was the other BIG EAST player
honored as Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Butler stopped six shots in a 2-1 loss to No. 15 Boston
College on Wednesday evening, and made a season-high 13 saves in UConn’s 2-1
victory over No. 10 Princeton on Saturday. The senior co-captain has started all
13 games for Connecticut this season and has played in all but 15 minutes in net
this season. Butler now boasts a miniscule GAA of 1.09 in 2003, and has a save
pct. of .811 en route to earning seven shutout victories.
UConn is back in action Wednesday evening to take on No. 12 Northeastern in
Boston. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
