STORRS, CT (October 20) -- Junior back Abby Ostruzka
(Riverside, CT) has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for her
efforts in leading the University of Connecticut field hockey team to a 2-0
week, including lock down of No. 10 Northeastern. Ostruzka earns the accolade
for the first time in her career.
Ostruzka was the keystone of a Husky backline that stymied
the Northeastern offensive attack, allowing only four shots en route to a 2-0
UConn victory. Prior to last week, Northeastern boasted the nation’s sixth-most
productive offense. Ostruzka and the Husky defense also held BIG EAST foe
Rutgers shot less in the first half of Sunday’s contest, which allowed UConn to
build a 3-0 advantage at the end of the first session. Connecticut went on to
win 5-1 and Ostruzka assisted on UConn’s fifth goal.
The Huskies are back in action Wednesday, October 22 when they square-off
with Boston University in Storrs. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
