Laura Puddle's Two Goals Spark Field Hockey Past Calgary 4-0

STORRS, Conn. (August 25, 2004) — Junior Laura Puddle (London, England) scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Connecticut field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout against the University of Calgary in its final preseason tune up on Wednesday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

The two teams held each other scoreless for the opening 33:35 of the contest before Puddle scored her first tally of the game off an assist by Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) to put the Huskies up 1-0.

The score remained the same until the 50:50 mark of the second half when Puddle blasted her second tally of the game.

The Huskies added two more scores over the next 16 minutes as Henderson put away a feed from Nicole Harmony (Palmyra, Pa.) at 56:10 before Becky Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal off a rebound at 66:32.

For the game the Huskies out-shot the Dinos 20-1 and attempted 10 penalty corners while limiting Calgary to two.

Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) earned the shutout for the Huskies while Burgundy Biletski made 10 saves in the loss for Calgary.

Connecticut opens the regular season schedule on Saturday, August 28 when it hosts Sacred Heart in the first game of the UConn Field Hockey Classic beginning at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
