Henderson, Helwig Power Field Hockey Past Quinnipiac 9-1

Conn. (September 8, 2004) — Senior Lauren Henderson (Avondale
Harare, Zimbabwe) and junior Becky Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) combined
for seven goals as the University of Connecticut field hockey team won its
fourth straight game with a 9-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-0 on the season, while Quinnipiac drops
to 0-3 with the loss.
UConn’s nine goals mark its highest single-game scoring output since recording
10 goals vs. Quinnipiac on Sept. 1, 1998.
Henderson scored a season-high four goals, three of which came over a 14-minute
span in the middle of the first half to put the game away. Helwig gave the
Huskies the early 1-0 advantage at the 2:47 mark, before adding a pair of
second-half tallies.
The Huskies (4-0) scored five unanswered goals to open the game as Lizzy
Peijs (Breda Holland) notched her third score of the season to round out
UConn’s first-half scoring.
Nicole Harmony (Palmrya, Pa.) also added a second-half goal for the
Huskies, while Laura Puddle (London, England) recorded an assist in the
win.
Jaime Cassesse registered the Bobcats’ only score of the contest at the
24:29 mark of the first half off a feed from Amy Cuniff.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, Sept. 10 when they host Vermont
beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
