Field Hockey Wins Fifth Straight With 4-0 Victory Over Vermont

Conn. (September 10, 2004) — The University of Connecticut field
hockey team dominated from start to finish as it won its fifth straight game
with a 4-0 decision over Vermont on Friday night at the George J. Sherman Family
Sports Complex.
The Huskies, who have out-scored their first five opponents this season by a
combined count of 26-2, improve to 5-0 with the win, while Vermont falls to 0-5
with the loss.
Jennifer Lozito (Fairfield, N.J.) got the Huskies on the board just 9:59
into the contest on a goal that was assisted by Abby Ostruzka (Riverside,
Conn.). Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) followed with her
team-leading seventh goal of the season at the 14:10 mark to increase the
advantage to 2-0.
Lizzy Peijs (Breda, Holland) added her fourth tally of the season at
25:24 to round out the first-half scoring.
Laura Puddle (London, England) scored off a feed from Peijs at 50:36 to
account for the final margin.
For the game the Huskies out-shot the Catamounts 37-0 and attempted 19 penalty
corners while not allowing Vermont a single attempt.
Junior goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) played all 70
minutes in recording her second shutout of the season.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday, Sept. 12 when they host Princeton
beginning at 1:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
