STORRS, Conn. (September 12, 2004) — Senior Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) scored a pair of goals as the University of Connecticut field hockey team won its sixth straight game with a 4-0 shutout of Princeton on Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

With the win, Connecticut improves to 6-0 on the season while Princeton drops to 1-3 with the defeat.

The Huskies came out firing in the first half as they out-shot the Tigers 12-2 over the initial 35 minutes.

Meagan Hoffman (West Granby, Conn.) got things started for UConn with her second goal of the season at the 6:58 mark to put the Huskies up 1-0.

Henderson followed with her first score of the game at 13:29 to give Connecticut a 2-0 advantage at the half.

The Huskies only attempted two shots in the second half, but took advantage of both as Lizzy Peijs (Breda, Holland) scored off a feed from Becky Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) at the 56:10 mark before Henderson followed with her second tally less than four minutes later to account for the final margin.

Princeton out-shot the Huskies in the second half 9-2 and attempted nine penalty corners to the Huskies two, but failed to capitalize as UConn junior goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) made six of her seven saves in the game over the final 35 minutes.

Helwig was a key for the Huskies on the defensive end as well as she made a season-best three defensive saves in the victory.

The Huskies will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Villanova in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
