No. 6 UConn Field Hockey Blanks UMass 4-0 For Ninth Straight Win

Amherst, Mass. (Sept. 25, 2004) — The University of Connecticut field hockey team won its ninth straight game as it blanked the University of Massachusetts 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Huskies to 9-0 on the season while Massachusetts falls to 1-7 following the loss.

Laura Puddle (London, England) scored first for the Huskies making the score 1-0 just 2:46 into the contest.

The two teams remained scoreless for rest of the first half and into the beginning of the second half before Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Kati Cavanagh (Norwalk, Conn.) followed with two goals over the next 10 minutes to put the game away.

The Huskies out-shot the Minutewomen 19-8 and attempted 10 penalty corners while limiting UMass to 4.

The Huskies return to action on Wed., Sept. 29 when they host Yale at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET).

Henderson will enter Wednesday’s game need just one goal to tie Tracey Fuchs’ UConn career goal record of 79. Henderson has tallied 78 goals over 72 career games entering Wednesday’s meeting with Yale.
