Laura Puddle Scores Game-Winning Goal in Overtime as No. 6 UConn Beats No. 12 Boston College 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (Oct. 6, 2004) —
Junior Laura Puddle (London, England) scored the game-winning goal 2:29 into overtime to cap a come-from-behind 3-2 win over No. 12 Boston College for the No. 6 University of Connecticut field hockey team.

The win moves the Huskies to a perfect 12-0 overall, including a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST play.  The Eagles drop to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the league following the loss.
 
Boston College (8-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) took the game’s first lead at the 23:18 mark on a goal by Sabrina Lazzari.

Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) answered for UConn with her team-leading 18th goal of the season less than two minutes into the second half to knot the game at 1-1.

The Eagles reclaimed the one-goal advantage at 2-1 on Lazzari’s second goal of the game at 55:49.

Kati Cavanagh (Norwalk, Conn.)  set up Puddle’s heroics when she scored on a breakaway, set up by Becky Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.), with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.

UConn (12-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 10 when it faces Boston University in a road non-conference contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
