No. 6 Field Hockey Blanks Rutgers 6-0

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 16, 2004) — The No. 6 University of Connecticut field
hockey team bounced back from its first loss of the season in a big way on
Saturday as the Huskies cruised past Rutgers 6-0 in BIG EAST action at the
George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Junior Becky Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and freshman Lizzy Peijs
(Breda, Holland) each scored two goals for the Huskies in the win.
Senior Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) also added her
team-leading 22nd tally of the season and Laura Puddle (London, England)
scored her ninth goal of the year in the victory.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 14-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the BIG
EAST. Rutgers drops to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Abby Ostruzka (Riverside, Conn.) totaled two assists in the win, while
Henderson, Peijs and Puddle added one each.
UConn goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) registered three
saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season.
For the game, UConn out-shot Rutgers 26-5 and did not allow the Scarlet Knights
to get of their first shot until late in the second half.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, OCt. 22 when they host Syracuse
beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
