No. 7 Field Hockey Posts 3-0 Shutout vs. No. 20 Syracuse

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 22, 2004) — The No. 7 University of Connecticut field
hockey team used three second-half goals to earn a 3-0 win over BIG EAST foe No.
20 Syracuse on Friday evening at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The win marked the 399th career win for UConn head coach Nancy Stevens.
Stevens will attempt to become only the fourth coach in NCAA field hockey
history to reach the 400-win milestone when the Huskies host Cornell on Sunday,
Oct. 24 at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, in the final home game
of the regular season.
With Friday’s win, UConn improves to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in BIG EAST action.
The Orange drop to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the league with the loss.
The win also marked Connecticut’s ninth shutout in 16 games this season. The
Huskies have out-scored their opponents 68-9 combined over their first 16 games.
Following a scoreless first half, UConn’s Laura Puddle (London, England)
gave the Huskies all the scoring they would need with her 10th goal of the
season at the 44:48 mark of the second half.
Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) gave the Huskies some
insurance when she scored her 23rd and 24th goals of the season less than eight
minutes apart later in the second half.
For the game, UConn out-shot the Orange 17-2 and attempted six penalty corners
to Syracuse’s one.
The Huskies close out the regular-season home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 24 when
they host Cornell beginning at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
