UConn's Henderson and Ostruzka Selected To Play in NFHCA North/South All-Star Game

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 25, 2004) — University of Connecticut seniors Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) and Abby Ostruzka (Riverside, Conn.) have been selected to play in the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I North/South All-Star Game on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Wake Forest University.

Henderson and Ostruzka were named to the 19-member North Squad. UConn was one of only three schools to have more than one student-athlete named to the North team.

Henderson has enjoyed a tremendous senior season which has seen her break the UConn career records for goals and points. Currently, with 91 goals and 200 points in her career, Henderson leads the BIG EAST and ranks second nationally with 25 goals this season.

Henderson is the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and was a 2003 NFHCA First Team All-America choice.

Ostruzka is the unquestioned leader of the nation’s top-ranked defensive unit that has limited opponents to just nine goals in 17 games this season. The Huskies’ defense has allowed its opponents an average of only 6.3 shots per game and has posted 10 shutouts over its first 17 games. In addition, Ostruzka ranks second on the squad with 10 assists.

Oxtruzka was a 2003 All-BIG EAST First Team choice and is a three-time selection to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
