Huskies Wrap Up BIG EAST Regular Season Title With 6-0 Win Over Providence

HARTFORD, Conn. (Oct. 30, 2004) — The No. 6 University of Connecticut field
hockey team blanked Providence College 6-0 in the final game of the regular
season on Saturday afternoon at Trinity College in Hartford.
UConn wraps up the regular season 18-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in BIG EAST
action. The Huskies captured the out-right BIG EAST Regular Season Conference
Championship, their third straight overall and the eighth in the program’s
history.
No. 1 seed UConn will face No. 4 seed Villanova in the semifinals on the BIG
EAST Championship on Friday, Nov. 5 at J.S. Coyne Field in Syracuse, N.Y.
beginning at 5:00 p.m. (ET).
Friday’s other semifinal game pits No. 2 seed Syracuse vs. No. 3 seed Boston
College. The two semifinal winners will meet at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7 for
the 2004 BIG EAST Championship.
The Huskies have advanced to the finals of the BIG EAST Championship in each of
the past two seasons are a perfect 3-0 all-time vs. Villanova in BIG EAST
Tournament games.
UConn defeated Villanova 1-0 in the only meeting between the teams this season
on Sept. 19 in Philadelphia.
Laura Puddle (London, England) gave UConn the early advantage in
Saturday’s regular season finale with her 13th goal of the season at 13:00.
Katie Cavanagh (Norwalk, Conn.) and Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare,
Zimbabwe) combined to increase the UConn advantage to 5-0 as each posted
back-to-back goals.
Senior back Abby Ostruzka (Riverside, Conn.) rounded out UConn’s scoring
with her first goal of the season at 69:43.
