CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Nov. 13, 2004) — The University of Connecticut field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to Northeastern in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament at Jordan Field on the campus of Harvard University.

Northeastern’s Mari Creatini scored the game-winning goal 10:44 into the first overtime period.

NU advances to Sunday’s second round game where it will face Wake Forest, which defeated Harvard 7-1 in Saturday’s early first-round game.

UConn finishes the season 20-2 overall, its best record since posting a 23-1 mark in 1999.  Both of the Huskies’ losses this season were overtime setbacks vs. Northeastern.

Connecticut won 20 games this season for the third time in the program’s history.

Senior Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) tied the UConn single-season goal record with her 31st tally of the year to give the Huskies an early 1-0 advantage just 2:22 into the contest.

Henderson’s 31 goals match Rose Aspelin’s school-record total set during the 1996 season.

Northeastern answered at the 13:51 on a blast by Liane Dixon, which knotted the game at 1-1.

The Huskies’ all-time record in NCAA Tournament games drops to 20-14 following the loss, while their mark in first round games slips to 11-5 all-time.
