UConn's Lauren Henderson Named as Finalist for Honda Sports Award for Field

Senior standout one of four finalists for field hockey player
of the year award
STORRS, Conn.
(December 1, 2004) — University of Connecticut field hockey
standout Lauren Henderson
(Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) has been named as one of four finalists
for the 2004-05 Honda Sports Award for field hockey.
The other finalists include
Kelly Dostal (Wake Forest), Veerle Goudawaard (Michigan State) and Paula Infante
(Maryland).
Henderson, a first-team
All-America choice and the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in each of the
past two seasons, became UConn’s career leader in both goals and points during
her senior campaign. She finished her collegiate career with a total of 97 goals
and 213 points. Henderson also tied the UConn single-season scoring record with
31 goals as a senior. She has been named to the All-Mideast Region squad in each
of her four seasons at Connecticut.
Henderson is a two-time first
team All-America choice, the 10th multiple All-America choice in UConn history.
The winner will be announced
on Monday, Dec. 6 and will be eligible to for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which
recognizes the nation’s outstanding collegiate women athlete of the year.
