Field Hockey’s Abby Ostruzka Named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic
All-District I At-Large Team

STORRS, Conn.
(May 26, 2005) - University of Connecticut field hockey senior
Abby Ostruzka (Riverside, Conn.) has been named to the ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large Team, which was announced
today.
Ostruzka is now eligible to be named to the Academic All-America
At-Large Team, which will be announced June 16.
A first-team All-America selection and the 2004 BIG EAST Defensive
Player of the Year, Ostruzka boasts a 3.8 grade point average in
special education.
Ostruzka was the leader of UConn’s defense, which was ranked No. 1
nationally in 2004, after allowing an average of just 0.57 goals per
game to its opponents over 22 games. The Huskies posted 13 shutouts en
route to claiming the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles.
A factor on the offensive end as well, Ostruzka handed out 12 assists
which ranked second on the squad and 12th nationally.
Ostruzka is a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA)
National Academic Squad choice, a two-time All-Mideast Region
selection, three-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and earned
back-to-back First Team All-BIG EAST mention.
Ostruzka finished her UConn career with three goals and 22 assists,
which is tied for 13th most in UConn career annals.
