UConn Field Hockey Gets Past Albany 4-1
in Season Opener
Four different Huskies score goals in win

STORRS, Conn. (August 26, 2005)
- Four different players scored goals as the University of Connecticut field hockey team opened the regular season with a 4-1 win over the University of Albany on Friday night at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex.

Meagan Hoffmann (West Granby, Conn.) and Katie Cavanagh (Norwalk, Conn.) gave UConn control of the contest early as they each notched scoring tallies within 22 seconds of each other in the opening half.

Kristin Galuski (Latham, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Laura Puddle (London, England) at the 14:47 mark of the first half to increase UConn’s advantage to 3-0.

Lizzy Peijs (Venlo, Holland) rounded out Connecticut’s scoring with a successful penalty stroke at the 23:23 mark of the first half.

Albany’s lone goal came off the stick of Kristen Holder who scored off a pass from Tina Bryson.

UConn out-shot Albany for the contest 13-3 and each team attempted two penalty corners.

The victory marked the third consecutive season that UConn has won its regular season opener.

The Huskies return to action on Sunday, August 28 when they host Maine beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
