UConn Field Hockey Falls at Penn State 3-1
Kristin Galuski tabs team-leading fourth goal in loss

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (September 4, 2005) - Sophomore Kristin
Galuski (Latham, N.Y) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the
season but it wasn’t enough as the University of Connecticut field
hockey team dropped its first contest of the year by a 3-1 margin on
Sunday afternoon at Penn State.
The loss moves UConn to 2-1 overall on the season, while the Nittany
Lions improve to 3-1 overall.
Penn State took a 1-0 lead 10:05 into the game when Natalie Berrena
scored off a feed by Annelise Legel. The Nittany Lions added another
tally at the 21:02 mark off the stick of Brittany Long to take a 2-0
advantage into the intermission.
Galuski got Connecticut on the board with her fourth tally of the
season when she tipped in a cross from senior Rebecca Helwig
(Basking Ridge, N.J.) to make the score 2-1 at the 48:03 mark.
Despite out-shooting Penn State 6-2 over the final 35 minutes, the
Huskies were unable to put another shot past Penn State goalkeeper
Megan Akstin, who made five saves - four of which came in the second
half.
Kiersten Wood added the last goal of the game for Penn State at 54:31
to account for the final 3-1 margin.
The Nittany Lions out-shot UConn for the game 11-8 and attempted nine
penalty corners while limiting the Huskies to six opportunities.
UConn returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 8 when they travel to face
Quinnipiac at Yale University beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
