STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (September 4, 2005)
- Sophomore Kristin Galuski (Latham, N.Y) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as the University of Connecticut field hockey team dropped its first contest of the year by a 3-1 margin on Sunday afternoon at Penn State.

The loss moves UConn to 2-1 overall on the season, while the Nittany Lions improve to 3-1 overall.

Penn State took a 1-0 lead 10:05 into the game when Natalie Berrena scored off a feed by Annelise Legel. The Nittany Lions added another tally at the 21:02 mark off the stick of Brittany Long to take a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.

Galuski got Connecticut on the board with her fourth tally of the season when she tipped in a cross from senior Rebecca Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) to make the score 2-1 at the 48:03 mark.

Despite out-shooting Penn State 6-2 over the final 35 minutes, the Huskies were unable to put another shot past Penn State goalkeeper Megan Akstin, who made five saves - four of which came in the second half.

Kiersten Wood added the last goal of the game for Penn State at 54:31 to account for the final 3-1 margin.

The Nittany Lions out-shot UConn for the game 11-8 and attempted nine penalty corners while limiting the Huskies to six opportunities.
