Villanova Rallies Past UConn Field Hockey 4-3
Freshman Jennifer Kleinhans scores two goals in loss

STORRS, Conn. (September 17, 2005) -
Villanova rallied from a 3-1 deficit with three goals over the final
18:29 to defeat the No. 11 University of Connecticut field hockey team
4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports
Complex in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams.
Lauren Campanelli scored the game winner for the Wildcats with 1:34
remaining in regulation, her second goal of the game.
The loss snaps the Huskies three-game winning streak and drops
Connecticut to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST games. Villanova moves
to 6-1 overall with the win and 1-0 in the league.
Connecticut came up short despite dominating the majority of the
contest as it out-shot Villanova 16-5 for the game and attempted 12
penalty corners while limiting the Wildcats to two.
Freshman Jennifer Kleinhans (Mannheim, Germany) scored a pair
of second-half goals to break a 1-1 deadlock at intermission and give
the Huskies a 3-1 edge with 25:40 remaining. Kleinhans first tally
came when she blasted a shot from 15 yards out to defeat Villanova
goalkeeper Erin Scott at the 42:19 mark of the second half.
Kleinhans added her second score off assists from seniors Rebecca
Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Laura Puddle (London,
England) at 49:20.
Villanova cut the margin to one on a goal by Rory Rogers at 51:31
before rallying for two more goals over the final 4:39 to seal the
victory.
Helwig put the Huskies on the scoreboard 13:02 into the contest with
her sixth goal of the season which was set up by Lizzy Peijs (Venlo,
Holland). Villanova answered to knot the score at 1-1 just over three
minutes later on a blast by Lauren Campanelli.
UConn returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when it plays host to
Harvard beginning at 4:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family
Sports Complex.
