STORRS, Conn
. (September 21, 2005) - The University of Connecticut field hockey team dropped its second consecutive game as it was defeated 1-0 by No. 20 Harvard on Wednesday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

Harvard (5-1) didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Gretchen Fuller put away a feed from Devon Shapiro to give the Crimson a 1-0 advantage just 42 seconds into the contest.

The two teams played much of the rest of the game in the midfield as each defense held the opposition scoreless over the final 69:18 of the contest.

The loss drops UConn to 5-3 overall, while Harvard improves to 5-1 on the season. The Huskies were defeated despite out-shooting the Crimson 8-2 and attempting seven penalty corners to Harvard’s two.

The loss marks the first time the Huskies have lost back-to-back home games since the 2001 season when it dropped decisions to Old Dominion and Boston College. The shutout represented the first time that UConn was blanked at home since Nov. 16, 2003, when it was defeated 3-0 by Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

UConn returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it plays host to Massachusetts beginning at 1:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
