No. 18 UConn Field Hockey Beats Yale 1-0
Barbie Steffen scores game winner with 59 seconds left in
first half

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September
28, 2005) - Junior Barbie Steffen (Oak Park, Ill.) scored
the only goal the No. 18 University of Connecticut field hockey team
would need as it defeated Yale 1-0 at Johnson Field in New Haven
Wednesday night.
Steffen scored the game-winner with 59 seconds remaining in the first
half, her second goal of the season, to give the Huskies their second
straight win and their fourth shutout on the year. Lizzy Peijs
(Venlo, Holland) assisted on Steffen’s game winner.
The victory moves UConn to 7-3 overall while Yale drops to 2-6
following the loss.
The two teams traded five shots each over a scoreless second half.
UConn goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) made two
saves en route to her third shutout of the season.
For the game, UConn out-shot Yale 12-6 and attempted 10 penalty
corners to the Bulldogs’ six. The Huskies set the tone of the game
early by out-shooting Yale 7-1 over the first 35 minutes of play.
UConn returns to action on Friday, Sept. 30 when it plays host to
Louisville in a BIG EAST Conference clash beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET)
at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
