No. 18 UConn Field Hockey Rallies to Beat
No. 11 Louisville 3-1

STORRS, Conn. (September
30, 2005) - The No. 18 University of Connecticut field hockey team
posted three unanswered goals as it rallied to defeat No. 11
Louisville 3-1 in a pivotal BIG EAST Conference showdown at the George
J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on Friday night.
Lizzy Peijs (Breda, Holland), Rebecca Helwig (Basking
Ridge, N.J.) and Kristin Galuski (Latham, N.Y.) each scored in
the win for the Huskies who improve to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the BIG
EAST with the victory. The loss drops Louisville to 9-3 overall and
1-1 in the league.
Louisville (9-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) took a 1-0 advantage on Janelle Avila’s
11th goal of the season at the 17:51 mark.
UConn (8-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) answered at 26:44 on a high blast by Peijs
which was set up by Helwig to make the score 1-1.
Helwig gave the Huskies the lead just over three minutes before
intermission with her eighth goal of the season which was set up by a
cross from Laura Puddle (London, England), her team-leading ninth
assist of the season.
Galuski added an insurance goal at 57:55 to give UConn a two-goal
cushion at 3-1. The goal also marked her eighth of the season, which
is tied for the team lead.
For the game UConn out-shot Louisville 15-5 and attempted 12 penalty
corners to the Cardinals three.
UConn returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it travels to face
Michigan State in Ann Arbor, Mich., beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET).
