Rebecca Helwig Named BIG EAST
Defensive Player of the Week
Senior scored a goal and added an assist in Huskies' 2-0 week

Conn. (October 3, 2005) - University of Connecticut senior
Rebecca Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) has been named the BIG EAST
Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct.
2, conference officials announced today.
Helwig scored a goal and registered an assist in UConn’s 3-1 win over
No. 11 Louisville. The senior was also key in the Huskies registering
their fourth shutout of the season earlier in the week with a 1-0 win
at Yale.
Helwig has tallied at least one point in seven of UConn’s 11 games
this season and is tied for the team lead with eight goals through the
first 11 games this season.
In addition, she leads the team with a pair of defensive saves,
including on in the win over No. 11 Louisville, and has handed out
four assists this season.
This marks the second time Helwig has been recognized by the
conference this season.
The Huskies begin a tough four-game road trip this weekend that will
see them face a pair of ranked opponents this weekend. On Saturday,
the No. 18 Huskies will battle No. 9 Michigan State beginning at 12:00
p.m. (ET). UConn will close out the weekend with a game against No. 13
Michigan on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (ET). Both games will be played on
the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor.
