No. 14 UConn Field Hockey Cruises
to 4-1 Win at Rutgers

- Junior Meagan Hoffmann (West Granby, Conn.) scored a pair of
goals to lead the No. 14 University of Connecticut field hockey team
to a 4-1 BIG EAST Conference win on Saturday afternoon at Rutgers.
The win improves UConn’s overall mark to 11-4 and upped its record in
league contests to 2-1. The Scarlet Knights slip to 6-9 overall and
0-4 in the conference following the loss.
Lizzy Peijs (Veno, Holland) got the Huskies on the board at the
27:44 mark of the first half with her ninth goal of the season.
Rutgers knotted the game at 1-1 just over 12 minutes into the second
half on a shot from Amy Lewis that was set up by Corinne Bach and Kara
Spector off a penalty corner.
Hoffmann gave UConn the lead for good with two goals in a span of less
than a minute. Her first tally came at 51:15 before she followed with
her second goal just 46 seconds later at 52:01 off a feed from
Laura Puddle (London, England).
Kati Cavanagh (Norwalk, Conn.) added an insurance goal at
62:05 to account for the final 4-1 margin.
The Huskies out-shot Rutgers for the game 17-3 and attempted 17
penalty corners to the Scarlet Knights’ four.
UConn returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when it plays host to
Boston University beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman
Family Sports Complex.
