Meagan Hoffmann Named
BIG EAST
Defensive Player of the Week
Junior tabs two goals and an assist in 2-0 week
STORRS,
Conn. (October 17, 2005) - University of Connecticut junior
Meagan Hoffmann (East Granby, Conn.) has been named the BIG EAST
Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct.
16, conference officials announced today.
Hoffmann sparked the defensive unit that guided UConn to a 2-0 week
that included wins over No. 10 Northeastern and BIG EAST foe Rutgers.
The junior netted a pair of goals, including the game winner, in the
Huskies’ 4-1 win at Rutgers on Saturday. She also assisted on the
game-winning goal in a 3-2 win at No. 10 Northeastern last Wednesday.
For the season, Hoffmann ranks fourth on the squad with 14 points. She
has tallied five goals and four assists over 15 games.
The conference recognition marks the first time Hoffmann has been
honored by the BIG EAST with a weekly honor. She marks the fifth UConn
player to be recognized by the league this season.
The Huskies, currently 11-4 overall and ranked No. 14 nationally,
return to action on their home turf on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they
play host to Boston University beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the
George J. Sherman Sports Complex.
