Meagan Hoffmann Named
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Junior tabs two goals and an assist in 2-0 week

STORRS, Conn. (October 17, 2005) - University of Connecticut junior Meagan Hoffmann (East Granby, Conn.) has been named the BIG EAST Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16, conference officials announced today.

Hoffmann sparked the defensive unit that guided UConn to a 2-0 week that included wins over No. 10 Northeastern and BIG EAST foe Rutgers.

The junior netted a pair of goals, including the game winner, in the Huskies’ 4-1 win at Rutgers on Saturday. She also assisted on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win at No. 10 Northeastern last Wednesday.

For the season, Hoffmann ranks fourth on the squad with 14 points. She has tallied five goals and four assists over 15 games.

The conference recognition marks the first time Hoffmann has been honored by the BIG EAST with a weekly honor. She marks the fifth UConn player to be recognized by the league this season.

The Huskies, currently 11-4 overall and ranked No. 14 nationally, return to action on their home turf on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they play host to Boston University beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex.
