UConn Field Hockey to Play Boston College
in NCAA First Round Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (ET)
Huskies travel to Princeton for opening rounds of NCAA Tournament on Saturday & Sunday

STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 8, 2004) - The University of Connecticut (16-5) field hockey team will play Boston College (13-6) in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on the campus of Princeton University.

Tickets to the games will be on sale when the gates open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Adult tickets will cost $7, while tickets for children and students will cost $4 with a Student ID. Saturday's admission is good for both games.

The Huskies, who captured the BIG EAST Tournament Title and a share of the conference regular season title, earned an automatic bid to the 16-team 2005 NCAA Championship.

Host institution and Ivy League champion Princeton (9-8) and No. 3 seed Duke (15-4) will square off in Saturday's other first round game, which is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start.

Saturday's first round winners will advance to the NCAA quarterfinal game scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 13 at Princeton beginning at 2:00 p.m. (ET).

The Huskies and Boston College will be meeting for the second time this season, with the Eagles earning a 1-0 win in the teams’ previous meeting during the regular season.

UConn earned an automatic berth in this year's NCAA field by virtue of its BIG EAST Championship Game overtime win over Villanova. The Huskies are appearing in their 17th NCAA Tournament and own an all-time mark of 20-14 in NCAA postseason action. Connecticut is 11-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament first round games.

The Huskies have qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons and nine of the last 10 overall.

UConn's most recent NCAA Tournament action came last season, where it dropped a 2-1 decision in the first round to Northeastern.

The Huskies have advanced to the national semifinals seven times in the program’s history and own a pair of national championships.

The winner of Sunday's second round game will advance the 2005 NCAA Field Hockey Championship hosted by the University of Louisville on Nov. 18-20.
