Four Field Hockey Players Named to All-Region Team
Senior Rebecca Helwig lands her third consecutive First-Team Selection

STORRS, Conn. (November 15, 2005) - The University of Connecticut field hockey team had four players added to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Region team, including three first team selections, which were announced this week.

Seniors Rebecca Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Laura Puddle (London, England) and Sophomore Lizzy Peijs (Venlo, Holland) represented the Huskies on the Mideast Region First Team. This is the third consecutive year Helwig has been a part of the first team and the second consecutive for Puddle. Peijs was chosen as a member of the second team for the 2004 season.

Helwig ended her senior season with 12 goals ranking her second on the team. She also dished out five assists and had four of the team's five defensive saves on the season. Helwig finished third among teammates in total points with 29.

As the main playmaker for the Huskies, Puddle recorded a team-high 15 assists which ties her for fifth in the national rankings.

Peijs finished her sophomore season at Connecticut second in points (31) and assists (11) and third in goals (10). She has started all 45 games of her career at UConn.

The lone Husky on the Mideast Region Second Team was junior Meagan Hoffman (West Granby, Conn.) who, previously, was named the 2005 BIG EAST Field Hockey Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Hoffman netted eight goals on the season while assisting on four. She was fourth on the team in points with 20.

The Huskies advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2005 NCAA Tournament where they fell in double-overtime to the No.3 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday. They closed the season out 17-6 overall.
