Peijs and Kleinhans Named To ECAC All-Star and WomensFieldHockey.com All-America Teams
Lauren Aird earns second team All-America mention

STORRS, Conn. (December 28, 2007) – University of Connecticut field hockey standouts Lizzy Peijs (Venlo, Holland) and Jennifer Kleinhans (Mannheim, Germany) continue to rack up postseason honors as the pair were each named to the ECAC All-Star Team and first team All-America by WomensFieldHockey.com.

Peijs was named as one of the four forwards, while Kleinhans earned one of three defender spots on the ECAC All-Star squad.

Junior Lauren Aird (Harare, Zimbabwe) also earned third team All-America status by WomensFieldHockey.com.  Peijs and Kleinhans were each part of the 16-player First Team WomensFieldHockey.com All-America squad.

 

The trio helped lead the Huskies to their second consecutive berth in the NCAA Field Hockey National Semifinals, a BIG EAST Tournament Championship and a conference regular season crown, following a 20-2 mark in the regular season.

Peijs was previously recognized with NFHCA First Team All-America honors for the second consecutive season, in addition to being named named the 2007 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year.

Peijs was UConn's leading scorer in 2007, totaling 16 goals and had 11 assists for 43 points. She became UConn's all-time leader in assists during her senior campaign and ranks among the top three among the program's career leaders in goals and points.

Kleinhans was also a repeat NFHCA First Team All-America pick in 2007. She scored five goals while adding four assists.   She totaled 14 points while starting 24-of-25 games in the UConn backfield.

Kleinhans was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and was also an All-Mideast Region pick. She was named to the all-tournament team at the 2007 BIG EAST Championship.

 

Aird ranked second on the team with 12 goals and third with 28 points.  She ripped a team-best five game-winning goals in 2007.
