Field Hockey Team
Members to Compete In Elite Tournaments This Summer
Two Huskies to
compete at 2008 U.S. Field Hockey National Championship
STORRS,
Conn. (June 20, 2008) –
A total of six
members of the 2008 UConn field hockey team will compete in elite
national events this summer, continuing the program’s tradition of
having its players compete among the highest international levels.
Seniors Lindsey Leck (Clarksburg, N.J.) and Meghan Wheeler
(Canton, Mass.) are currently competing for the New England Team at
the 2008 U.S. Field Hockey Women’s National Championship in Virginia
Beach, Va. Wheeler is making her second consecutive appearance with
the New England entry, while Leck earned a spot on the squad for the
first time in her career.
Both
players are competing alongside and
against members of the U.S. National Team, which will be representing the United
States in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
In
addition, four members of UConn’s incoming freshman class are scheduled to
compete at U.S. Field Hockey’s
Nationals Futures Championship, which is slated for June 21-26 in Virginia
Beach, Va. The players expected to participate include Ali Blankmeyer
(Convent Station, N.J.), Lizzie Dunbar (Southbury, Conn.), Rayell
Heistand (Hamburg, Pa.) and Cara Silverman (Roseland, N.J.). |
