STORRS, Conn. (June 20, 2008) – A total of six members of the 2008 UConn field hockey team will compete in elite national events this summer, continuing the program’s tradition of having its players compete among the highest international levels.

Seniors Lindsey Leck (Clarksburg, N.J.) and Meghan Wheeler (Canton, Mass.) are currently competing for the New England Team at the 2008 U.S. Field Hockey Women’s National Championship in Virginia Beach, Va.  Wheeler is making her second consecutive appearance with the New England entry, while Leck earned a spot on the squad for the first time in her career.

Both players are competing alongside and against members of the U.S. National Team, which will be representing the United States in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

In addition, four members of UConn’s incoming freshman class are scheduled to compete at U.S. Field Hockey’s Nationals Futures Championship, which is slated for June 21-26 in Virginia Beach, Va.  The players expected to participate include Ali Blankmeyer (Convent Station, N.J.), Lizzie Dunbar (Southbury, Conn.), Rayell Heistand (Hamburg, Pa.) and Cara Silverman (Roseland, N.J.).
