Huskies Shutout At No. 1 New Hampshire, 6-0

DURHAM, N.H. (February 19, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's hockey team fell to No. 1 New Hampshire, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Whittemore Center. It was the final game of the season series between the two teams, with the Wildcats capturing all three games of the series.

With the loss, the Huskies slip to 11-20-1 overall and 9-10-0 against Hockey East opponents. New Hampshire improves to 27-2-1 overall and 16-1-1 in the league.

The Wildcats opened the scoring 8:51 into the first period and never looked back, tallying two more goals in the opening stanza to close out the period with a 3-0 lead. One more goal in the second period and two in the third, the last coming at the 18:34 point in that stanza, wrapped up the offense in the game.

The Huskies could only muster 14 shots on goal against the New Hampshire offense for the game, a direct contrast to the 41 shots that the Wildcats took on goal in the game. UConn was 0-for-5 on the power play while New Hampshire went 2-for-6 with the extra skater on the ice.

Freshman Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ontario) took the loss for the Huskies, giving up three goals and stopping seven shots in the first period. Senior Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) patrolled the crease for UConn in the remaining two stanzas, giving up three goals and tallying 28 saves in those 40 minutes.

Brittany Busa got the win for New Hampshire after stopping all 14 of the Huskies shots. Sam Faber had three point afternoon for the Wildcats, including two goals, as did Nicole Heckle, who dished out three assists in the win for New Hampshire.

The Huskies are in action next on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they host Providence in the Mark Edward Freitas. The Hartford Courant careerbuilder.com Senior Salute game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
