Kaitlyn Shain Earns First Team All-Hockey East Honors

BOSTON, Mass. (March 3, 2006) - University of Connecticut
senior Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) earned First Team
All-Hockey East Honors as announced by the league at the annual
postseason banquet on Friday evening. Sophomore Jaclyn Hawkins
(Manotick, Ontario) was the second Husky to be honored, earning
Honorable Mention status. Shain wrapped up her final season in a
UConn uniform with a 9-19-0 record while accumulating a 2.32 goals against
average and a .926 save percentage. That percentage led all Hockey East goalies
for the season. Shain earned ten Honor Roll spots and three Defensive Player of
the Week honors on the year and was also named the Goaltender of the Month for
October. As a junior in 2004-05, the goaltender earned Second Team honors.
Hawkins, who was the Hockey East Rookie of the Year in 2004-05,
received Honorable Mention honors after leading UConn in points, goals
and assists this season. The sophomore racked up 27 points on the
season after scoring 12 goals and dishing out 15 assists. Four of her
goals came on the power play while two were shorthanded.
The Huskies wrapped up the 2005-06 season with a 12-21-1 overall record and a
10-11-0 mark against Hockey East opponents. UConn was 8-8-0 on the season in the
Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum, including a 6-4-0 record in the league at home. |
