Hollstein Selected for U.S. Women's Under-22 Camp
COLORADO
SPRINGS, Colo. (May 19, 2008) - Sophomore Amy Hollstein
(Pembroke, Mass.) has been chosen as one of the 34 individuals to
compete for a spot on the U.S. Women's Ice Hockey Under-22 Select
Team in Lake Placid, N.Y. from June 24-July 1.
Hollstein will be competing for one of the 22 spots on the final
team roster as the Under-22 team will participate in the USA Hockey
Women's National Festival in August as well as competing against
Canada in the Under-22 Series.
The individuals selected for the camp will be participating in all
on-ice activities during the week at the Olympic Training Center.
Jackie Barto will serve as the team's head coach after she led the
U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team to a gold medal at the
first-ever IIHF World Women's U18 Championship in January. She will
be assisted by UConn's own assistant coach Jaime Totten and
the head coach of Bemidji State University, Steve Sertich.
Hollstein finished the 2007-08 season with 10 goals scored and 12
assists in 35 games played. Her 22 points ranked her fourth on the
Huskies' roster this season while she scored four game-winning
goals, the second highest on the team. The sophomore was also chosen
as the Hockey East TPS Hockey Player of the Week on Feb. 11 for her
successful week's play for the UConn program.
This season, she help guide the Huskies to a successful season with
an overall record of 22-8-5 as UConn finished with the
program-record 22 wins before falling against Providence in the
Hockey East Tournament. They also picked up an eighth place ranking
in the national polls, the best ranking in program history.
"I am extremely happy that Amy's talents have been recognized
and she will have an opportunity to compete for a spot on the U.S.
Under-22 Team," said UConn head coach Heather Linstad.
"She has been a tremendous asset to our program since becoming
a part of the Huskies and we look forward to seeing her succeed at
her goals on and off the ice. She is also very competitive and is an
outstanding two-way player, which is a great thing to have on any
team."
