Thibault Selected for Canadian National U-22 Team

STORRS, Conn. (August 19, 2008) – University of Connecticut women's ice hockey junior and 2007-08 Hockey East TPS Hockey Player of the Year, Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.), has been selected for the Canadian National Women's Under-22 Team that will compete against the United States Under-22 National Team on August 20-23 in a three-game series in Pierrefonds, Que.

Thibault will lead the Canadian National Team against a United States program that is assisted by UConn Assistant Coach Jaime Totten. Totten is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach and has been with the UConn women's ice hockey program for eight seasons under the direction of head coach Heather Linstad.

In 2007, Totten was selected to work with the USA Hockey Under-14 select camp in Rochester, N.Y., while she has also coached the Select-16's and 17's at the Junior National Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The Canadian National Team includes 11 players who played for the program in 2007-08, which finished the season 7-0, the first perfect season in the history of the Under-22 program. Five athletes joining the squad won the silver medal with Canada's National Women's Under-18 team at the 2008 IIHF World Women's U-18 Championship in January. All members of the team have played in the Hockey Canada development system.

Thibault, UConn's first ever women's ice hockey player to earn All-America honors as well as Hockey East Player of the Year honors, finished the 2007-08 regular season with a league-high 48 points, including 24 goals and 24 assists, while leading the Huskies in goals and points.

The New England Hockey Writers Division I Women's All-Star team member also picked up a new UConn program record of points in a single season with her 49 points. She is currently in second place among UConn’s all-time scoring leaders, with 38 career goals. With 74 points in her two years at UConn, she moves up in the UConn record books to third place in career points.
