NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 26, 2008) - Three different players had three
goals apiece for Yale as the Bulldogs defeated the University of Connecticut
women's lacrosse team, 18-3, Wednesday afternoon at Johnson Field. The Huskies
are now 0-8 on the season, while Yale improves to 6-3.
Katie Devaney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Katie Parker (Rochester,
N.Y.) each scored on free position opportunities in the first half, while
Laura Eichert (Laurel, Md.) added an unassisted tally midway through the
second half for the Huskies.
Yale came out of the gates firing, scoring the first seven goals of the game
through the opening 15-plus minutes of the half. Three different players scored
two goals in the stretch, including the Bulldogs' leading scorer Lauren Taylor.
Devaney put the Huskies on board at the 13:38 mark with a free position goal to
make the score 7-1. After three more tallies by the Bulldogs, Parker scored her
first career goal with the free position attempt to bring the score to 10-2.
Coming out the intermission trailing 11-2, UConn allowed just two goals in the
first 10 minutes of the second half, but a 4-0 run by the Bulldogs stretched the
lead to 15-2 with 13:59 to play. Eichert brought the score to 15-3 at 11:03, but
Yale closed out the game with three more tallies to come away with the 18-3 win.
The Huskies return to Storrs for two home games this weekend. The action begins
Saturday, Mar. 29, at noon against conference foe Notre Dame. UConn then faces
UC Davis Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. |
