WESTWOOD, Mass. (April 9, 2008) - Katy Ryan (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored three
goals and Robyn Pastuch (Merrick, N.Y.) added one goal and two assists,
but Boston College used an eight-goal run in the first half to defeat the
University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team, 18-8, Wednesday night at
Flahive Field on the campus of Westwood High School. The Huskies are now 1-12 on
the season, while the Eagles improve to 4-7 overall.
Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but UConn battled back with three
straight tallies to pull within one at the 16:38 mark. Lauren Sparks
(West Chester, Pa.) scored her third goal of the year off an assist from Pastuch
to start the run with freshman Jillian Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and
Ryan rounding out the scoring.
The Eagles then closed out the half with their eight-goal run that included
three tallies by Lauren Costello, who finished the night with four. The second
half opened with three more goals for Boston College, stretching its lead to
15-3 with 21:24 to play.
Ryan then started a 4-1 run for the Huskies that closed the gap to 16-7. Kim
McGinty (Huntington, N.Y.) scored both her goals in that stretch,
sandwiching another tally from Ryan within a four-minute span. The Eagles then
scored two of the final three goals of the day to finalize the 18-8 advantage.
Costello and Lauren Fitzpatrick led Boston College with four goals apiece.
Whitney Michele (East Rochester, N.Y.), UConn's leading scorer, was held
without a point for just the third time this season.
The Huskies return to action Saturday at Louisville in the Cardinals' first year
