LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 12, 2008) – Bergan Foley
scored seven goals for Louisville as the Cardinals defeated the University of
Connecticut women’s lacrosse team, 15-8, Saturday afternoon at the Cardinals
Lacrosse Stadium. The Huskies are now 1-13 on the season, while Louisville
improves to 8-4 overall in its first year of varsity lacrosse.
Katy Ryan (Hamburg, N.Y.), Kim McGinty
(Huntington, N.Y.) and Katie Devaney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) paced the Huskies
with two goals apiece as UConn put together a six-goal effort in the first half
and led by as much as two.
UConn jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but two goals from Liz
Lovejoy tied the game by the 23:10 mark. Devaney then rattled off back-to-back
goals, including one of an assist from Robyn Pastuch (Merrick, N.Y.) to
put the Huskies back in the advantage.
The game would stay within one for the remainder of the
half with Jillian Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Pastuch each adding
tallies before the Huskies headed into halftime trailing 7-6.
Louisville opened the second half with consecutive goals by
Foley, starting an 8-1 run that lasted until the closing minutes when McGinty
found the back of the net off an assist from Ryan to make the score 15-8.
The Cardinals out-shot UConn 35-24 and had a 17-15
advantage in ground balls.
The Huskies return to action Friday, Apr. 16 against
California at 6:30 p.m. in the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
