STORRS, Conn. (April 20, 2008) - The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse battled back from a five-goal halftime deficit to pull within two, but ninth-ranked Georgetown used a late run to hand UConn a 16-7 loss Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. The Huskies end their season with a 1-15 record, while Georgetown improves to 10-5 heading into next weekend's BIG EAST Tournament.

Katy Ryan (Hamburg, N.Y.) led UConn in scoring with three goals and an assist, while four others added single tallies. Jenna Moulton (East Rochester, N.Y.) had 12 saves in goal for the Huskies, including 10 in the first half.

Sunday's game was the last for four seniors: Leah Giffin (Manlius, N.Y.), Meghan Nanfeldt (Jacobstown, N.J.), Robyn Pastuch (Merrick, N.Y.) and Emily Van Buitenen (Darien, Conn.).

The Hoyas jumped out to a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Ashby Kaestner, who finished the day with a game-high four, before Jillian Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) put the Huskies on the board with an assist from Pastuch at 17:06. Georgetown, who had been held scoreless for nearly 15 minutes since the opening goals, answered with a four-goal run to close out the half and pull ahead 6-1.

UConn came out of the intermission firing as Ryan scored 0:35 into the period to start a 5-2 run for the Huskies. Whitney Michele (East Rochester, N.Y.), Kim McGinty (Huntington, N.Y.) and Katie Devaney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) all scored in the stretch as UConn pulled to within two, 8-6, with 19:47 to play. This spurred an eight-goal scoring spree, fueled by two each from Molly Ford and Zan Morley, by the Hoyas to stretch the lead to 16-6.

Ryan added UConn's final tally at 1:07 on a free position shot to account for the final score.
