Cersosimo Resigns As Women's
Lacrosse Coach
STORRS, Conn. (April 25, 2008) -
University of Connecticut head women’s lacrosse coach Megan
Cersosimo has resigned her position effective May 31, after leading
the Husky squad for the past two seasons.
“I want to thank the administration, coaches and players
who have given me so much over my combined 11 years with the University of
Connecticut lacrosse program,” said Cersosimo. “I am grateful for the
opportunity to have coached at my alma mater and am proud of what this team has
accomplished over the last several years. I have a young son, Brady, at home and
I am very much looking forward to spending more time with him and my family.”
“I wholeheartedly believe that this team has the potential
to succeed within the region, BIG EAST Conference and ultimately the NCAA and I
will forever remain a loyal member of the University of Connecticut family."
Cersosimo, the former Megan Campbell, was named head coach
in August 2006 after serving as an assistant coach for the previous five
seasons. She was a four-year letter winner for the Huskies and was part of the
program’s first recruiting class. She was named All-BIG EAST second team as a
senior in 2001 and to the North Regional All-American Second Team.
“Megan will always be a valuable member of the UConn
lacrosse family,” says UConn Director of Athletics Jeffrey Hathaway. “She has
been part of our women’s lacrosse program from the beginning and has played an
important role in the success that the team has enjoyed over the years. We wish
the very best for Megan and her entire family.”
“We will immediately begin a national search to find the
very best coach to lead our student-athletes in the continued enhancement of our
lacrosse program." |
