STORRS,
CT (October 1) — University of Connecticut women’s rowing assistant coach Cindy
Biles was named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Regional
Rowing Assistant Coach of the Year. Biles was voted as the New England
representative in the award’s first year.
Biles enters her second season with the Connecticut rowing
program. Biles works primarily with the team’s novice squads, while assisting
seventh-year head coach Jen Sanford-Wendry.
The 2003 Regional Assistant Coaches of the Year are Pam Mork
(University of Notre Dame) in the Central Region, Jim Mitchell (West Virginia
University) in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Biles (University of Connecticut) in
the New England Region, Kara McPhillips (University of Virginia) and Kelly
Lynch (Clemson University) (tie) in the South Region and Eleanor McElvaine
(University of Washington) in the West Region.
The CRCA Assistant Coach of the Year award is designed to
honor a member CRCA Assistant Coach who has demonstrated outstanding commitment
to his/her program, has had a significant impact on the success of his/her
program, and who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity
as a coach
The Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year will be announced at a
later date.
