Rowing Finishes Seventh at BIG EAST Challenge
WORCESTER, MA (April 26 ) – The University of Connecticut women’s
rowing team finished seventh overall at the BIG EAST Challenge on
Sunday, defeating Villanova and West Virginia for the overall points.
Notre Dame was first, followed by Miami, Syracuse, Rutgers, Georgetown
and Boston College.
The UConn varsity eight was unable to place in the top three in the morning
heats which placed them in the petite finals. West Virginia won the petite
final, UConn was second and Georgetown third. Notre Dame won the grand final.
The junior varsity eight raced hard in the heat and also fell short of
making the final, losing to Boston College by a of a ½ length. In the petite
final, UConn won by two lengths of open water over West Virginia and Villanova.
Notre Dame won the grand final.
The varsity four had the best performance of the day, finishing second in
their heat to advance to the grand final. In the grand final they placed fifth,
1/10 of a second behind Rutgers in fourth. Notre Dame was first.
The novice eight raced to a third place finish in the heat, defeating
Villanova to advance to the finals. In the finals, UConn placed sixth with
Georgetown taking first.
The second novice eight raced in a three boat, non-point scoring final and
finished third out of three entries. Georgetown was first, Boston College ended
second.
UConn’s final race of the season will be the Dad Vail Championship in
Philadelphia on May 7th and 8th. |
