Three Husky Boats Move On To Semifinals At First Day Of Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 9, 2008) --
The University of Connecticut women's rowing team began competition
at the annual Dad Vail Regatta on Friday.
The UConn varsity eight boat finished second in its
first race to advance to the semifinals. UConn came in at 6:39.5 in the
race, which was won by Sacramento. Murray State, Robert Morris, Loyola (Md.)
and Maryland CP finished out the field.
The Husky varsity eight will now compete in a semifinal
race on Saturday at approximately 11 a.m.
The UConn second varsity also moved on to Saturday's
semifinals as it finished second in its first race with a time of 6:48.1.
Purdue won the heat in 6:37.5 and the Huskies were followed by Lehigh, Saint
Mary's and Creighton. The second varsity semifinal will be Saturday morning
at approximately 8:56 a.m.
The Husky novice eight was third in its heat on Friday
and moved on to the semifinals. UConn raced in 7:06.7 while Orange County
and Temple took the top two spots. Maryland CP was fourth and Penn State
fifth. The novice eight semifinal will be Saturday morning at approximately
7:52 a.m.
The entire Dad Vail Regatta will conclude on Saturday
with final races in the afternoon. |
