NEW YORK, NY (February 6) - Soccer Buzz Magazine announced its annual awards for women’s Division I soccer with NCAA Champion Portland and College Cup semifinalist North Carolina grabbing the major honors. Seven different UConn players received Regional and/or National recognition.

Midfielder Sarah Popper (Penn Yan, NY), who was recently drafted by the Boston Breakers of the Women’s United Soccer Association, was named to Soccer Buzz’s All America Second Team, the All Northeast Region First Team and was selected at the Northeast Region Player of the Year.

Sophomore forward Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, NM) earned a spot on the All America Third Team and joined Popper on the All Northeast First Team, along with defender Naima Montacer (Wallingford, CT) and goaltender Maria Yatrakis (Brooklyn, NY).

On the All Northeast Second Team is Salla Ranta (Helsinki, Finland). Rookie Brittany Barakat (Arlington, TX) was honored as a member of the Freshman All America Second Team, All Northeast Region Third Team and All Freshman Northeast Region Team. Another receiving freshman honors was Jennifer Sullivan (Stonington, CT), who was named a member of the Freshman All America Honorable Mention Team and the All Freshman Northeast Region Team.
