Women's Soccer Announces 2008 Schedule
2008 Schedule STORRS, Conn. (May 5, 2008) -
University of Connecticut women's soccer coach Len Tsantiris released the
team's 2008 schedule on Monday. The schedule will feature eight teams that
participated in the 2007 NCAA tournament. The Huskies will open the season
with an exhibition game against Boston College on August 25 in Storrs. They will
then open the 2008 regular season when they host local rival Central Connecticut
on Monday, August 25. UConn will next travel to Penn State to participate in
the first of two very challenging tournaments during the season. At the Penn
State tournament, the Huskies will face defending CAA champion Hofstra on August
29. They will then face the team that knocked them out of the NCAA quarterfinals
in 2007 when they have their first ever regular season meeting with Florida
State on August 31. After coming home to face Yale (Sept. 5) and Boston
University (Sept. 7), the Huskies will host their annual UConn Classic on Sept.
12-14. This year, the Huskies have one of their strongest fields ever as they
welcome 2007 Final Four participant UCLA, Penn State, which made it to the third
round of the tournament, and Brown. On September 12, Brown will face Penn State,
while Connecticut will take on the Bruins. On September 14, the Bears will face
UCLA, while the Huskies will face the Nittany Lions. BIG EAST play opens the
next weekend when UConn hosts Providence on September 19. After a quick trip to
Fairfield (Sept. 21), it is all BIG EAST games for the remainder of the regular
season. The Huskies will host USF (Sept. 26), DePaul (Oct. 17), Notre Dame (Oct.
19), Syracuse (Oct. 24) and St. John's (Oct. 26). They will travel to Marquette
(Sept. 28), Louisville (Oct. 3), Cincinnati (Oct. 5), Pittsburgh (Oct. 10) and
West Virginia (Oct. 12).
“We are looking forward to a
very competitive 2008 schedule," said Tsantiris. "We’re playing some of the top
teams in the country including three of this year’s NCAA Final Four teams
(Florida State, UCLA and Notre Dame). While we graduate five seniors, we have an
experienced and talented team returning in the fall. It should be an exciting
season as we are also celebrating 30 years of the program at UConn."
The 2007 Connecticut Huskies concluded this season 14-6-2. They advanced to the
NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2003. Their final NSCAA national
ranking of ninth was also the highest since they finished second in 2003. |
