Two Named To M.A.C. Hermann Watch List
KANSAS CITY, Kansas (August 19, 2008)– Two
University of Connecticut seniors Stephanie Labbe and Brittany Taylor were named
to the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List. The list is
comprised of athletes of many of the top women’s soccer programs in the country.
Seven of the teams that UConn will face this year have at least one team member
on the Hermann watch list. UConn is one of 10 schools to have two players on the
watch list.
Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe (Stony Plain,
Alberta) is named to the list for the first time in her career at UConn. The
nomination is well-deserved after Labbe’s 2007 season.
Labbe ended the season ranked 17th in the country with a
.61 GAA, the lowest of her career. She also played every minute in goal for the
Huskies during their NCAA Quarterfinal run only allowing 14 goals in 22 games
and saving 71. She also had a career-high 11 shutouts during the 2007 season.
Labbe is currently in Beijing, China as an alternate for
the Canadian Women’s Soccer team.
This is the second M.A.C. Hermann
nomination for senior defender Brittany Taylor (Campbell Hall, N.Y.).
Taylor was also nominated for last year’s watch list.
During the 2007 season Taylor helped the UConn team to a
15th ranked .61 GAA. As a starter of every game during the 2007 season, Taylor
also helped the team offensively scoring two goals and tallying one assist. This
season, however, Taylor will be recuperating from ACL surgery and will most
likely sit out the season.
