MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (September 28, 2008) – The University of Connecticut women’s soccer team lost their first game in BIG EAST play Sunday at Marquette. The Golden Eagles scored at 26:25 and held their lead for the rest of the game.

UConn (3-6-2, 1-1-1) had a few opportunities to score throughout the game. At the end of the first half both senior Liz Eng (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Cory Bildstein (Stockholm, N.J.) had a good chance to score for the Huskies and tie up the game, but were unable to capitalize.

During the second half, senior Brittany Tegeler (Baldwin, Md.) had a good chance to put a shot in the goal from inside the box, but couldn’t. UConn finished with 10 shots on the night, compared to Marquette’s 11.

Marquette (6-3-2, 2-0-1) scored in the middle of the first half. Kristi Laurenzi sent a shot from 20 yards out that went to the far post. Senior goalie Stephanie Labbe (Stony Plain, Alberta) was screened during the shot and couldn’t follow the path of the ball to try and save it.

The Huskies are back in action Friday, Oct. 3 at Louisville at 7:00 p.m. The game against Louisville is the first on a BIG EAST road trip for the Huskies. They will finish their trip in Cincinnati on Sunday.
