Women's Soccer Falls To Marquette
1-0 In First BIG EAST Loss Of The Season

MILWAUKEE, Wisc.

– The University of Connecticut women’s soccer team lost their first game in BIG
EAST play Sunday at Marquette. The Golden Eagles scored at 26:25 and held their
lead for the rest of the game.
UConn
(3-6-2, 1-1-1) had a few opportunities to score throughout the game. At the end
of the first half both senior Liz Eng (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore
Cory Bildstein (Stockholm, N.J.) had a good chance to score for the Huskies
and tie up the game, but were unable to capitalize.
During
the second half, senior Brittany Tegeler (Baldwin, Md.) had a good chance
to put a shot in the goal from inside the box, but couldn’t. UConn finished with
10 shots on the night, compared to Marquette’s 11.
Marquette (6-3-2, 2-0-1) scored in the middle of the first half. Kristi Laurenzi
sent a shot from 20 yards out that went to the far post. Senior goalie
Stephanie Labbe (Stony Plain, Alberta) was screened during the shot and
couldn’t follow the path of the ball to try and save it.
The
Huskies are back in action Friday, Oct. 3 at Louisville at 7:00 p.m. The game
against Louisville is the first on a BIG EAST road trip for the Huskies. They
will finish their trip in Cincinnati on Sunday.
