Week Six Game Notes - Sacred Heart and
Providence STORRS, Conn. (March 25, 2008) - The
University of Connecticut softball team hosts Sacred Heart for a doubleheader
Wednesday in their 2008 home opener. It will be the first ever meeting between
the two schools. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Connecticut
Softball Field. The Huskies (8-10) won their third straight game via shutout
on Thursday, March 20 when they defeated Quinnipiac 9-0 in five innings. Junior
Micah Truax (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) went deep in the fifth inning of
that game, for her 20th career home run. That tied her for first on the all-time
Husky career list with current assistant coach Andrea D'Innocenzo and
former letterwinner Karin Muller. Tricia Sullivan (New Bedford,
Mass.) pitched a one-hitter for her fourth shutout of the season. Sacred Heart
is 6-11 on the season. They have lost seven straight since a 6-4 start to the
season. In their last outing on March 22, they fell in a doubleheader to Boston
College 2-1 and 13-5. The Pioneers' top hitter is freshman Courtney Lee. She is
hitting .377 with two home runs and eight RBI. Senior Megan Spehar is their top
pitcher. In nine appearances she is 4-5 with a 5.14 ERA. Despite the proximity
of the two schools, this will be the first ever meeting in softball. The
Huskies will begin BIG EAST play this weekend when they travel to Providence for
a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Raymond
Field. |
