UConn Men's And Women's Swimming Both In Fifth Place At BIG EAST
Championship
Championship concludes on Saturday
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (February 22, 2008) - The University of Connecticut
men's and women's swimming and diving teams are both in fifth place through the
first three days of the BIG EAST Championships. The event concludes on Saturday.
Notre Dame leads both championships while Louisville is second in each one.
The UConn women were led by junior Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.), who
finished second in the 400 IM in a time of 4:20.40 to break her own school
record and earn All-BIG EAST honors. Senior Courtney Haney (Mesa, Ariz.) was fifth in the 100
breaststroke in 1:03.08 for a school record.
Senior Allison Coleman (New Canaan, Conn.) finished second in the
three-meter diving after finishing second in the one-meter event on Wednesday.
Coleman had 266.45 points in the finals and finished just 0.45 points off the
lead. Junior Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill,
N.J.) finished sixth in the event with 241.95 points.
Freshman Carolyn Lungmus (Sarasota, Fla.) was fourth in the 100
backstroke in a time of 55.60 -- just a tenth of a second off the school record.
Senior Jordan Zarin (Rockville, Md.) won the consolation final in the
100 butterfly in a school-record time of 56.12 seconds.
The Husky men had three of the top eight performers in the 100 yard butterfly
as junior John Henry Dasinger (Madison, Conn.) was fifth in 49.06 while
sophomore John Hogan (Hogansville, Md.) was sixth in 49.17 and junior
Adrian Astiz (Bethesda, Md.) was eighth in 49.32.
Freshman Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) was fifth in the 100 yard backstroke in 50.17.
