Huskies Honored At Men's Basketball Game
Men and women recognized for BIG EAST achievements
HARTFORD,
Conn. (March 3, 2008) – Members of the University of Connecticut men’s and
women’s swimming and diving teams were honored for their outstanding success
this season in a halftime ceremony of the UConn vs. West Virginia men’s
basketball game on Saturday.
They were honored by UConn Director of Athletics Jeffrey
Hathaway and Senior Women’s Administrator Pat Babcock.
Senior Courtney Haney (Mesa, Ariz.) was honored as
she became an NCAA automatic qualifier in the 200 yard breaststroke en route to
a school record. She will compete at the NCAA Championship March 20-22 in
Columbus, Ohio.
Also recognized was senior Allison Coleman (New
Canaan, Conn.), who finished second in both the one and three meter diving
competitions at the BIG EAST Championship and for the second time in her career
was named the BIG EAST Female Diver of the Year.
The following Huskies were also honored: junior Adrian
Astiz (Rockville, Md.), an NCAA B cut performer in the 200 yard butterfly;
freshman Carlyn Lungmus (Sarasota, Fla.), an NCAA B cut performer in the
100 yard backstroke, junior Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.), an NCAA B cut
performer in three different events, including the 200 yard freestyle and the
200 and 400 yard IM and senior Sarah Kearns (Milford, Mass.), an NCAA B
cut performer in both the 500 and 1,650 yard freestyle events.
Also taking part in the ceremony was head coach Bob
Goldberg and assistant coaches Brian Thomas and Amy McCullough. |
